Pumpkin Lager - Revisit

Forget everything that I said about this brew before: it's awful and a sure 1.0 or less in my book. The first bottle I opened was the last bottle that I bottled. I'm guessing that's why it only tasted a little watery. I've opened a couple of liters the past two nights and both times it was the same story: very watered down allspice with a hint of beer. I'll probably end up pouring out this whole batch over the next few days.

Lessons Learned
  • Pay attention to how much water you are putting in the keg. Over-watering kills a beer.
  • You CAN over-spice a beer. Remember you're making beer, not an apple pie.

On a side note, this is supposed to be a brew log so that I can keep track of what I've tried, when I tried it, and what the results were. However, in case you are reading this for some reason, I just can't resist the urge to wish you a Merry Christmas. There will be plenty more brewing on my part in the new year, so I hope you come back, and maybe start brewing some of your own, if you aren't already.

I received Mr Beer as an Xmas gift and brewed my first batch yesterday. Thanks for posting your experiences here for all to learn from.

Thanks for stopping by SC, and I hope that reading about my experiences might come in handy to you. I got my dad a Mr.Beer kit for Christmas and we loaded it up just this past weekend too. Good luck with that keg, and I'd love to hear how it turns out.

I feel your pain regarding the failed pumpkin lager. I blew a batch of cinnamon spice beer a couple months ago and haven't had the guts to start a new batch yet. Kudos to you for jumping in and staying in. We're watching.

Yeah, it was pretty traumatic pouring 2 months of waiting and anticipation down the drain, but lesson learned, I suppose. I know it's more work than picking up a good sixer, but I just have way too much fun brewing to stop, for some reason.

I'll be watching to see if you get around to starting another keg though, seriously!
